Experience

WHY ME:

  • SPANISH: I became fluent through examinations and practice – I know what is needed for success! In particular, my Spanish lessons focus on improving fluency in grammar and speaking – the most challenging aspects of both the language and the exams.
  • MUSIC: I am a graduate in Music from Cambridge University, with years of experience in analysing and explaining music, and in harmony, counterpoint and theory exercises.
  • OXBRIDGE: Throughout University, I have mentored prospective applicants through Music applications to Oxbridge. I know the tips and tricks for writing an impressive Personal Statement, and for succeeding in the interview and pre-interview assessments.
  • Will tutor at any level, and for all major school qualifications boards (GCSE/A-Level and equivalents).
  • Friendly and relaxed lessons (students are always most successful in this environment!)
  • I sat these school exams not so long ago – I have recent, first-hand experience of preparing for them, and of the pressure students experience.
  • Passionate about helping you or your child succeed in examinations *and beyond*

MY LESSONS:

  • The first lesson will be used to understand the student’s key strengths and areas for improvement in the subject. Subsequent lessons can cover whatever topics the student is currently studying, but will always return to the key areas for improvement.
  • Lessons will be taught at a pace suitable for the individual.
  • Lessons will be focused on the final exam (if there is one), but will ensure that the student truly understands the concepts. Students are more likely to succeed this way, rather than simply memorising an explanation that they don't understand.
  • OXBRIDGE: For Music Applications to University, I like to understand a student's interest in the subject, giving them some more in-depth reading on the topic before they attempt to write a Personal Statement.

About

Outside of my degree, I lead an active musical life, from choirs to rock bands, as well as writing music - including a winning entry in the 3rd International Competition of Composers. Other hobbies include writing blog posts on current affairs, as well as going on regular runs!
