Recent 1st Class Human, Social and Political Science Graduate from Cambridge. Teaching Politics and History
Politics. History.
Hi! I’m Jacob, a 1st Class Graduate from the University of Cambridge. I studied Politics and International Relations including Comparative Politics, International Relations, History of Political Thought and Public Policy. I also got 8 9s and 2 8s at GCSE, 3 A*s in A-Level History, Politics and Latin and an A* in EPQ.
I’ve been a teaching assistant and have helped many friends informally so I’ve seen the power of direct feedback, mentoring and advice. I really believe that the quality of teaching makes a significant difference to what pupils can achieve and I want to bring my experience of excellent teaching to many others.
I will be starting an MPhil in Political Theory at the University of Oxford in October and tutoring is a way that I can give back some of the knowledge I’ve gained and will gain. I will use the more advanced and detailed study I have taken on to inform my teaching and help students to both better understand what they need to learn and take it to another level.
I firmly believe that teaching needs to be tailored to students. However, I'm also aware that students often have little experience of varied teaching styles, so I'd like to use initial lessons to allow students to work out what works best for themselves. Sometimes, it can be best to ask a student to explain something themselves allowing them to grasp a topic under a tutors guidance, but other times it might be best for me to explain.
I also hope to help students get a strong grasp on essay technique and to really understand what they need to be doing. This will involve both an exchange of advice and review of past essays so they can see where improvements could be made.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking with my friends, going for walks in the countryside and reading novels!
