Hello! My name is Ben and last year I graduated from the University of Oxford with an MSt in Modern European History, after achieving a First for my BA in History the previous year. I studied English, French, History and Politics at A-Level and was able to draw upon all four subjects while writing my thesis on historical memory and regional identity in the city of Lyon after the Revolution of 1871. For this work, I was awarded a grant from the Society for the Study of French History to conduct first-hand archival research in Paris, Lyon and Brighton. Since graduation, I have worked for a year designing interdisciplinary extracurricular academic programmes for undergraduates from China and in my free time I volunteer for Books2Africa, a charity which sends second-hand educational materials from the UK to schools and libraries across the continent.
Having studied at Oxford for both my degrees I can guide students on the application process at undergraduate and postgraduate level, both of which present very different challenges. As a tutor, I strive to build students’ confidence and to help them to find the areas of study that excite them the most.
In my free time I enjoy playing rugby and chess, and exploring London's green spaces. I am also learning Russian.
