My teaching methods ultimately revolve around two main concepts: (1) content consolidation and (2) intensive exam question practise. Medicine and university applications require a far different approach: (3) Planning!
(1) Powerpoints, diagrams and supplementary homework YouTube videos will be used to assist the student to understand key concepts. Lessons may start with recalling some processes such as chemiosmosis or ionisation energies to ensure spaced repetition which kindles active recalling and long-term memory.
(2) Multiple lessons will involve practising exam questions in increasing difficulty to ensure they 'speak the mark scheme language.' My goal is to make sure they can write exactly what gets them the marks and use key terms such as 'complementarity to active sites' in biology or 'increased shielding effects' in chemistry. Past students found these types of lessons very useful as ultimately for biology/chemistry, 30-50% can be active recall with the same mark scheme every year and getting this down will be extremely beneficial.
(3) University admissions require long-term planning: (A) getting the right experience, (B) preparing for entrance exams, (C) personal statement preparation and (D) interview assessments. I personally guide students throughout this entire process and make sure they are reminded these key steps to make one of the strongest applications possible to Russel Group, G5 and Oxbridge Universities.
I am currently reading the Graduate-Entry Medicine Course at Oxford. I was initially a Cambridge reject during undergraduate medicine applications and ultimately decided to pursue a Biomedical Sciences degree at UCL to find my interests and ultimately came across neuroscience yet yearned to become a doctor and use my passion for neuroscience as a neurosurgeon.
Outside of tutoring, I play my guitar to destress, do sports such as running and play video games with friends to socialise too!
